Day 11: A Winter’s Day

Hey y’all, it’s Dustin again. Y’all really thought that a sunny 90 degree day in Connecticut would translate to a nice day over here on the west coast huh? Well you’d be wrong - it was 40s and pouring all day! 

We started off - with honestly a pretty good day - Angie made some breakfast burritos and we got to chat a bit more and take a picture together to celebrate a great two days on the farm with her and her family.

Because Brian’s bike broke and we lost a day of riding, Julia’s parents were gracious enough to get up early and drive us just about where we would have started the day. 

But it was COLD and WET. We biked over 50 miles today in the cold rain - Julia and Brian were kinda cranky so half way though I decided to cheer them up a little! Nothing makes julia laugh more than me falling off my bike, so I did just that - I fell over on a dirt road, and in an effort to not break a wrist - I just let it happen and fell on my shoulder (still clipped into the bike). It did just the trick, Julia and Brian perked up, and we did the rest of our 50+ mile ride in better spirits. (Don’t worry I’m okay)

You know… if you really squint - these falls may just be all Julia’s fault… first she gets a flat tire so we stop, and then Brian falls over trying to get going again… THEN Julia tells us to take a wrong turn up a dirt road - and I fall over trying to turn back around… these can’t just be coincidences… so I’m pretty sure she owes both of us some beer. (Also y’all would be proud - this is the first day of the trip I haven’t had a beer! But I guess the day isn’t quite over yet)

Honestly - it was a pretty crappy day, but there were a few highlights:
1. Me falling of my bike of course

3. We had a nice dinner with Chuck and Margaret (our hosts for the evening) we had soup, cole slaw, and some pie with huckleberry for dessert! 
4. We road across this massive bridge with a beautiful look out onto the water (sorry no pics because it was pouring and we hated our lives at the moment)
5. NO MOUNTAINS! 

So yeah - we are looking forward to a warmer and sunnier day tomorrow - we’ll see y’all then!

    Glad you were not hurt, no getting broken bones or anything right near the start of your ride.

Day 52: WE ARE HOME!

It’s the one and only Julia! Today is the day - we are finally home (I mean we still have to bike to the coast tomorrow, but that’s a later problem because tonight we finally can sleep in our own beds!) It has just been a surreal day. We only had 39 miles to home, so the end was very much in sight. Personally, I thought that today was going to be nice and easy since it’s a short day…. HA these routes always be playing. The whole first part of the day was straight uphill. Gotta love those nice 8% grades to kick off a day. Don’t worry, though, there was no tears or fear of vomiting so I call it a success! Day 1 - CT to WA!

Welcome everyone to our Coast to Coast for a Cause 2022 Blog! We are hoping to use this space to share our stories and adventures as we travel (on bike!) from Washington state back home to Connecticut.  Were we English majors in college? No. Will we ever be published novelist? Probably not. Will we have grammar and spelling mistakes in these posts? Most definitely. With that said, we will try to make this blog as interesting to read as possible, and make you feel like you are sitting around the campfire with us as we dive into our tales of the day!  At this point you are probably wondering, “Who is even writing this blog right now?” and “What is Coast to Coast?” Well, I am so glad you asked! We (Dustin Moore, Julia Neri & Brian Legato) are three students from UConn  Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine. We will be sharing the duties of blog posting, so today your author is Julia! Day 53: the last blog

Hey y’all - it’s Dustin, sorry the blog is late for the last one… probably because the rest of our day started like this:  Anyway: so we got up and left for our last ride to the beach around 830 - our friend Lenny was a trooper and decided he would ride with us the 44 miles to hammonaset and he did an awesome job! He did so well that we went too fast and how to slow down so we didn’t get there before the welcoming committee. We were getting a bunch of angry texts telling us we were too fast so we stopped for ice cream at Ashley’s which is supposedly the best in CT - it was pretty good - I got peach and there were also frozen pieces of peach in the ice cream which is nice! Also - in a desperate attempt to keep the trip going (I don’t know why she would want to do that) Julia decided to run over some glass and get a flat tire! Her first since Washington state, and the groups first since Montana - I think she did it on purpose…  Anyway, after our entourage finally showed up at the beach w
