Day 52: WE ARE HOME!
It’s the one and only Julia! Today is the day - we are finally home (I mean we still have to bike to the coast tomorrow, but that’s a later problem because tonight we finally can sleep in our own beds!) It has just been a surreal day. We only had 39 miles to home, so the end was very much in sight. Personally, I thought that today was going to be nice and easy since it’s a short day…. HA these routes always be playing. The whole first part of the day was straight uphill. Gotta love those nice 8% grades to kick off a day. Don’t worry, though, there was no tears or fear of vomiting so I call it a success! (Oh it was also raining all day, but it was actually pretty nice to have it cool us off)
We were then blessed for the rest of the ride with mostly downhills. It was *chef’s kiss* beautiful. The night before Dustin and I were going back and forth about what route to take, and I will admit that Dustin was right and after the beginning, his route was basically all chill and downhill. (Dustin never reads my posts, so he’ll never know that I said he was right).
Halfway through our ride we were actually found by the NBC CT news crew, where we had an interview on the side of the road. They then followed us for a good chunk of our ride getting different footage. I guess this must be what celebrities feel like - I mean we basically are celebrities, right?
As we made our way up the hill - that I told Dustin he wasn't allowed to go fast up - to the UConn Health Academic Entrance he became so real that we actually made it! It was incredible to round the corner and see all of our friends and family waiting for us. We really could not have done this without all the support that we received from all these amazing people in our lives who have been our biggest cheerleaders since day one. We couldn’t get off our bikes fast enough to give them all soaking wet hugs (spot Sarah absolutely throwing me into the air on our hug).
This has been one of the most physically and mentally challenging things that any of us have ever done, but knowing that we were able to raise such an immense amount of money for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in order to help send these kids to a place to “raise a little hell”, makes it all worth it. As of right now we have raised over $16,000 with an additional $1,000+ pending. Thank you so much again to everyone and your generosity throughout the entire trip! We are so so so appreciative!
The rest of the day has been incredible filled with Starbies, Thai food, White Claws, and binging an entire season of Dollface with all my friends! Oh to be back home! We have one more day, so tune in tomorrow for when we dip our tires in the water marking the end of our Coast to Coast adventure!
